		<title>Fixing a Typewriter</title>

<description>My girlfriend owns an old typewriter which suddenly stopped working one day. The ink ribbon no longer moved properly when typing, so no ink was transferred onto the page. On top of that, many keys were jammed and did not come back after pressing them. In short, the typewriter was in need of care. Although I had never repaired one before, I was happy to try it out.
The Issue A typewriter works by slamming a metal key with an embossed (raised) letter on a thin ribbon that contains ink. The raised part will then transfer ink from the ribbon to the page. A drawback of this method is that the ribbon must sit above the typing area which ultimately hides the word being typed. To be able to see the word there exists a mechanism that raises the ribbon in place right before the key hits the page. That way the word will only be shortly hidden.

		<title>Why I use a Static Site Generator</title>

<description>In the spirit of the new year I just quickly want to explain why I use a static site generator for this website, and it does have something to do with the new year.
Already a long time back I&amp;rsquo;ve always liked the footers of websites because they portrayed a sense of professionality. Having &amp;quot;© 2025 Leo Martin&amp;quot; on your website looks better than having it just blank. On top of that it&amp;rsquo;s also a nice indicator of how long the website has been unmaintained, though most of the time the maintainer just does not have a way to change the date every year.

<title>Access Immich From Outside the Local Internet</title>

<description>I&amp;rsquo;ve been using Immich on my home server for a while now. My family and I use the phone app to back up our photos, which works great on Android and iOS. The only problem was that you couldn&amp;rsquo;t access the photos from outside your local home network. This was quite an annoyance because even if all the photos exist locally on your device you can&amp;rsquo;t use the helpful Immich features like face recognition or image search because the database sits on the home server.

		<title>Dmenu Patches For Wayland</title>
		<link>https://leomartin.ch/projects/dmenu-patches-for-wayland/</link>

<description>Dmenu is a lightweight dynamic menu. It&amp;rsquo;s mainly used as a program launcher for the dwm window manager but can do much more. I quickly saw it&amp;rsquo;s whole range of uses when implementing into my bash scripts.
The problem was that I was using X11 on my laptop when writing these scripts and when I switched to KDE on my desktop, which runs on Wayland, they stopped working. The reason is that dmenu is only written for the older X11 graphical server. Wayland is supposed to replace it but adoption has only sped up recently. When I decided to switch to wayland on my laptop aswell, I got more interested in finding a solution.

		<title>VFX Astronaut</title>

<description>When I first watched Tears of Steel I got really excited about Blenders capabilities. But for the longest time I only created 3d models and animations. I did create some VFX shots with friends but nothing that looked realistic. But now I was experienced enough to try to delve in to a more complicated VFX project. My plan was to create a small short film about Yuri Gagarin, the first Human in space. (I use the word astronaut even tough cosmonaut would be correct because

		<title>Game Jams</title>

		<guid isPermaLink="true">https://leomartin.ch/projects/game-jams/</guid>
<description>One day my friend Dénes proposed to take part in Brackeys Game Jam together. The idea was that I create the 3D models and he&amp;rsquo;d handel the coding. He&amp;rsquo;s been coding for longer than I have and already created a few games on his own. A game jam is a sort of competition where many people get together to create games in a limited amount of time. Each game has to follow the same theme which is given at the start. We had a week to complete it which was pleasant because we had school on the side.
