One day my friend Dénes proposed to take part in Brackeys Game Jam together. The idea was that I create the 3D models and he’d handel the coding. He’s been coding for longer than I have and already created a few games on his own. A game jam is a sort of competition where many people get together to create games in a limited amount of time. Each game has to follow the same theme which is given at the start. We had a week to complete it which was pleasant because we had school on the side.
In total we took part in three jams and created three different games, each not big enough to have it’s own page so I’ll summarize them here.
Imaginary Island

Theme: It is not real
We participated in our first jam in 2022. It took us a while to find a suitable idea for the game because we didn’t want to make something obvious. We ended up having an idea which was sort of original but nobody understood it.
The idea was to have a fake game appear first and only by “closing” it, would you be thrown into the real one. There was a more elaborate plan, but implementing it would have exceeded the time limit.
On my side it was fun designing a jungle explorer and an island but none of the models where optimized.
Here is a photo of the game map.

Canyon

Theme: Diving deeper
A year later in 2023 we participated a second second time. Our game concept was that you had to traverse a normal parcour and if you fall you don’t loose points nor does it restart the game. Instead you just fall down onto the next level of the parcour. To win you have to complete different tasks. For example falling down to the last level and then rise up again.
The game was a bit simpler when it came to the models. One problem that arose was exporting blender models with procedural textures to unity. It was a pain to bake textures for 16 different woodplanks but it worked. For the future I should develop a more streamlined workflow to remove tedious work. But for only a few models this method works fine.
The canyon model was generated in Gaea. It was my first time using the software but sadly there’s not a linux version. Gaea is very powerful and I’m definitely going to look into it more in the future for some of my movies.
The music was based on a western sounding melody that I played on my electric guitar. I developed the melody a while back when I was planning on making a western short film but I haven’t done it yet (it’s still on my mind). It was recorded with a voice microphone placed directly in front of my Amp and then slightly processed in BandLab. I quite like the soundtrack of this game even though it’s unfinished. Like many of these compositions I should complete them and make a finished song but we’ll see when that happens.

Eagle Valley

Theme: Nothing can go wrong …
Eagle Valley is a platformer game we created in 2025. The way we interpreted the theme was to first look at its opposite. There exist ragebait platformer games like Getting Over It which were, and still are popular on the internet. In these games everything can go wrong; one step too far and you loose all of your progress. Our version inverted the concept back to fit the theme and we implemented it by way of having a watchful eagle that observes your every move. If you fall it just picks you back up and brings you to where you were standing before, it essentially works like a checkpoint. The concept is not ground breaking but I like the idea of having a companion eagle.
Similarly like in Canyon there is no way to die on the way.
I created all of the 3d models except the temple which lays at the finish line. The monk character was semi recycled from the jungle explorer in Imaginary Island.
I had a lot of fun creating the soundtrack. I used BandLab to create everything and recorded the guitar with my headset and it sounds better than I expected.

Ratings
After uploading other developers are able to rate our game. To get people to see it we had to comment on other peoples games and hope they would rate us back.
Here are the ratings for all our games.

The best rating we got was for the audio in canyon, which im happy with. I didn’t understand the eagle valley audio rating though, I thought it was the best soundtrack out of all the games. Maybe the bad ratings had to do with the sound effects but we’ll never know.
Looking at the overall score we see a decrease of quality each year which is kinda funny. To be clear we didn’t intend on doing that. In spite of the dwindling ratings I am looking forward to creating more games if the opportunity arises.
